BRISTOL, Va. — All was quiet on a sun-drenched Friday morning in the 800 block between State and Goode streets, where a cluster of long-vacant buildings stand silently.
Developers of the long-promised Sessions Hotel said this week that silence will soon be broken, issuing a new timetable for construction and opening for the 70-room boutique hotel and two attendant restaurants.
“It doesn’t feel like we’re in Norfolk anymore,” Dana Jo Decker remarked to friends while standing in line recently to check in at The Main, Virginia’s newest luxury hotel and conference center. “It feels like we’ve been transplanted somewhere else.”
ST. PAUL, Va. — The squeals of power saws slicing lumber fill the air near the intersection of Fourth and Russell streets in downtown St. Paul, much as they have for the past nine months.
Travis Milton, a chef out to preserve and push forward the culinary traditions of Appalachia, will open the first of his three restaurants in the region this summer. Meals at this meat and three, which is a stone's throw from his hometown, will remain casual. Stay tuned for his more elevated Shovel and Pick in a year.
